Congratulations to Hayley who gave birth to a little boy, Benedict Peter, at 5am this morning! Weighing in at 8lb 14oz – he is in rude health and enjoyed a morning sleeping in his parents arms. A little bit of a cheek I thought when you consider that, because of all his high jinks, Hayley and I have not slept well for days and not at all last night!
Benedict, meaning blessed, is of Latin origin and is the name of a major Saint, 16 popes and the character of a Shakespearean play! It is the Saint who inspired us. Saint Benedict was the father of Western monasticism, a devout and loving man, who founded 12 communities bound together by a simple rule of life which promoted reasonableness, balance and simplicity.
Peter, meaning rock, is of Greek origin and is the name of the apostle on whom Christ founded his Church. Courageous, impulsive, passionate and strong, he is the apostle with whom I have always most identified. Not because I am any of those things but because I have a habit of opening my mouth and putting both feet in….just ask Tina Turner!
