Tunbridge Wells Vets 23 – 3 Gillingham 3rd XV

As I drove to the rugby club this afternoon I questioned my own sanity. The wind was fierce, the rain lashing down and it was a little chilly to boot. This feeling only increased when I tentatively left the clubhouse in my shorts….only a total lunatic would voluntarily take to the field in such inclement weather! But within minutes of kick-off I was absolutely loving it and feeling alive! It was a predictably scrappy game, with plenty of knock-ons and spilt passes, but hard faught and rewarding at the end. A great victory for the vets and we continue to move up the table. Long may it continue!

After the match I was the unfortunate sole nominee for ‘wally of the week’, my fathering a child coupled with recent media exposure clinching the deal. Thus I had to wear the infamous hat and down a yard of ale – see lead photo- all whilst the rest of the club predictably sang ‘simply the best’ by Tina Turner! A great day and thanks especially to captain fantastic- Francesco Collangelo- pictured below- who puts so much effort in to hold the team together and keep the show on the road. The Christmas party looms, a 1970′s theme has been chosen, so I shall be looking to various readers of this blog for fashion inspiration and advice!
